The Guardian reports that FIFA intends to increase the number of participants in the 2029 Club World Cup.
FIFA has already informed the continental federations of its desire to hold the next Club World Cup in 2029. Likely hosts include Spain and Morocco, both of which will host the World Cup in 2030.
One proposed format would expand the tournament to 48 clubs. Another model would increase the number of playoff matches for a spot at the Club World Cup and is considered more favorable because it would help avoid calendar congestion.
On August 18 it was reported that FIFA is considering holding the Club World Cup every two years starting in 2029 instead of its current four-year cycle, and expanding participants from 32 to 48.
The 2025 Club World Cup took place from June 14 to July 13 in the United States. The tournament featured 32 teams split into eight groups. Chelsea won the trophy, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3–0 in the final.
