Winger of Brazil Serie A club Flamengo, Bruno Henrique, has been suspended for 12 league matches for “acting contrary to sports ethics.”
The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) said the 34‑year‑old “Bruninho” deliberately received two cautions and was sent off in the 31st round Serie A match of the 2023 season against Santos (1-2). That behavior, the committee found, allowed him to benefit from bets placed on the game. The case was investigated by the Federal Police of Brazil, and the files were later turned over to the STJD.
The public prosecutor charged Bruno Henrique with harming his club and taking actions capable of influencing the match result. Investigators noted an unusually large number of bets were placed on him receiving a yellow card, and that those bets originated in Belo Horizonte, the player’s hometown. In addition to the suspension he was fined 60,000 reais (about $11,000). The player’s defense may appeal the decision.
Bruno Henrique has played for the red‑and‑black side since January 2019. In the current season he appeared in 19 Brazilian Championship matches and scored two goals. Transfermarkt estimates the player at €1 million.
