Barcelona’s only goal came from a penalty by Lamine Yamal. The home side’s goal was scored by Fran Pérez.
The match’s best player was Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García, who made six saves.

We didn’t deserve more. We lacked intensity, we made a lot of mistakes. We can play better. We could have scored more goals, the second could have come in the first half, but Rayo played very well. I’m not happy with my team today. We lost a lot of balls and we have to do better.
Barcelona currently have seven points and sit fourth in the La Liga table, while Rayo Vallecano have four points and are in tenth place.
In the next round on September 14, Rayo travel to Osasuna, and Barcelona host Valencia.
