Barcelona coach Hans-Dieter Flick held a meeting with the team’s fitness coaches after their 4-1 loss to Sevilla in the 8th round of La Liga, reports Sport.es citing Catalunya Radio.
Flick believes Barcelona players have not yet reached the required level of physical readiness for this stage of the season. Special focus is on Spanish midfielder Pedri, whose fitness metrics are significantly lower than last year’s.
Currently, the team’s workload is below expectations due to greater player fatigue compared to last season, limiting the ability to increase training intensity.
Flick aims to bring the team to peak condition by March, but this will be difficult without raising training loads.
At present, Barcelona have 19 points and are second in the La Liga table. Their next match is the Catalan derby against Girona on October 18 at 18:15 GMT+3.
