New Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz has shared the reasons behind his move from Bayer Leverkusen to the English club. His comments were featured on the official website of the Reds.
I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and of course I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them.
Wirtz emphasized that he was impressed by the people at the club and the ideas they presented, which played a significant role in his decision.
Liverpool acquired Wirtz for €135 million, making it the third most expensive transfer in football history.
Wirtz had been with Bayer since July 2020, playing 197 matches, scoring 57 goals, and providing 65 assists. The transfer market value of the 22-year-old German is estimated at €140 million by Transfermarkt.
It was previously reported that the Merseyside club is also interested in securing the transfer of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
