Dennis Onyango has made a surprising decision by coming out of retirement to rejoin the Ugandan national team ahead of the next round of World Cup qualifiers. Onyango has been called up by coach Paul Put to the squad that will face Mozambique and Somalia in the next two rounds of qualifiers as the Cranes look to put their World Cup dreams alive.
Onyango had come in to assist the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team goalkeepers train before the tournament began, but has told Telecomasia.net that was the catalyst for his return to the national team.
Dennis Onyango
The best thing for a footballer is to always play for the national team. CHAN has played a huge part in me rejoining the Uganda Cranes because I started off as a goalkeeper trainer and now the coach has called me to help the goalkeepers in the senior side for the World Cup qualifiers. The love you get from the people, your teammates and everyone is what has made me want to give back to my country.
The custodian has been called up alongside Salim Magoola who also plays in South Africa for Richards Bay, Nafian Alonzi and Joel Mutakubwa.
