Borussia Mönchengladbach have suspended 28-year-old midfielder Florian Neuhaus from all first-team activities for four weeks. During this time, he will train with the youth team. After the suspension, the club's management will decide on his future.
According to the German publication Bild, the suspension was prompted by a video filmed during Neuhaus's vacation in Mallorca. In the video, the midfielder appeared to be intoxicated while interacting with fans. It is unclear from the video whether the player or a fan called the Borussia head coach "the worst in the world." This led to discontent within the Mönchengladbach club.
Borussia's management deemed such behavior unacceptable and stated that it did not align with the team's values. As a result, the player has been temporarily removed from the first team and fined €100,000.
Florian Neuhaus has been with Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2017, making 220 appearances across all competitions, scoring 26 goals, and providing 29 assists. His contract runs until the end of June 2027, and his market value is estimated at €3.5 million by Transfermarkt.
Notably, in 2021, clubs like Liverpool, Napoli, and Borussia Dortmund showed serious interest in Neuhaus, but the midfielder chose to remain in Mönchengladbach.
The Club World Cup is currently underway. You can find the tournament's overview here.
