Former IBF world champion, Japanese boxer Ginjiro Shigeoka, has undergone brain surgery and is now forced to retire.
On May 27, the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) released a statement that Shigeoka suffered an acute subdural hematoma and had already undergone skull trepanation, so he can no longer hold a professional license and must retire from boxing.
Recall, Shigeoka had a fight for the IBF lightweight title against Pedro Taduran of the Philippines on May 24. Ginjiro lost by split decision and started to lose consciousness after the announcement of the result. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent brain surgery.
Shigeoka has 11 wins (nine by knockout) and two losses in the professional ring.
