
Argentinian midfielder Franco Vazquez of Cremonese has received a ten-match ban for racist insults directed at French Bari defender Mehdi Dorval during a match in the 26th round of the Italian Serie B.
The match between Bari and Cremonese took place on February 15 and ended in a 1-1 draw. At the end of the game, former Sevilla player Franco Vazquez made racist remarks toward Mehdi Dorval, causing the French defender, who has Algerian roots, to leave the field in tears.
Later, Bari’s head coach Moreno Longo confirmed that Vazquez had insulted Dorval in a highly offensive manner.
As a result, Serie B officials announced that the 36-year-old Cremonese midfielder would face a ten-match suspension for his actions.
This season, Franco Vazquez has played in 28 matches for Cremonese across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing three assists. He is also a winner of the UEFA Europa League with Spanish club Sevilla.
