Italy head coach Gennaro Gattuso reportedly slapped several players during the half time of their 5-0 win over Estonia in Group I qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Defender Alessandro Bastoni said the coach gave the players “a couple of slaps.” Forward Giacomo Raspadori confirmed and said he “got one on the back of the neck”.
Italy scored five goals in the second half. The match was Gattuso’s debut in the role.
After the game, Italy sits third in Group I with six points.
