Spartak Moscow newcomer Gedson Fernandes, who joined the Russian club from Turkish side Besiktas, commented on the story that suggested his former club, Benfica, acquired him from a small team called Frielas for 25 balls and 250 euros.
I don't know how much they paid for me. But I'm happy it happened because without it, I wouldn't be who I am today. I started from the very bottom. Maybe at that time it was a significant amount. I'm grateful to Benfica for all the years and to my first club, Frielas, where I took my first steps.
On July 31, Spartak announced the signing of the 26-year-old midfielder. Gedson Fernandes signed a four-year contract and will wear the number 83 jersey.
It is worth noting that Gedson Fernandes had been playing for Turkish club Besiktas since 2022, where he made 131 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists.
Previously, the Istanbul club reported that the transfer fee for the player was 20 million euros, with additional bonuses of 7 million euros outlined in the agreement between the clubs.
After two rounds, Spartak Moscow currently sit in tenth place in the Russian Premier League standings, with three points to their name.
Gedson Fernandes may make his debut for the team on August 3 in a match against Akron from Tolyatti. The game is set to start at 13:30 GMT+3.
