
Lille striker Olivier Giroud set a record in the UEFA Europa League, reports statistics portal Opta. The French forward scored against Brann (2-1) on September 25 in the first group stage match of the 2025-26 season.
Giroud scored his goal in the 80th minute after coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute. At 38 years old, he became the oldest player in the tournament’s history to score after coming off the bench.
Giroud joined Lille in summer 2025. This season, he has played five matches in all competitions, scoring three goals.
After five rounds of Ligue 1, Lille are fifth in the standings with 10 points. They face Lyon on September 28 at 18:15 GMT+3.
