According to O Globo, a fan of Brazilian Serie A club Corinthians has been sentenced by a São Paulo court to one year in prison for an incident that took place in November 2024.
On November 5, 2024, during the 32nd round match of the 2024 Brazilian championship at Neo Química Arena, Corinthians hosted Palmeiras and won 2–0. During the match a 36-year-old home supporter threw a pig’s head onto the field.
The supporter told the court that another person threw the head, but admitted he had bought the pig’s head at a city market and brought it into the stadium. The court ruling states that a dead animal’s head does not symbolize healthy rivalry and only provokes violence among fans. The convicted man has the right to appeal the verdict.
