Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola spoke about his feelings after his team’s start to the group stage of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League and explained why he admires Napoli.

Yes, it was [a perfect start to the Champions League campaign]. We play a lot of minutes against 10. Italian teams are unbelievable [at defending]. I’ve faced them many many times in the Champions League. The resilience, the focus…I admire them so much.
City beat Napoli 2-0 in the opening round of Europe’s premier club competition.
Next up, Manchester City travel to Monaco, while Napoli host Sporting. Both matches are scheduled for October 1.
Earlier, Guardiola admitted he does not consider City among the favorites to win this season’s Champions League.
