Ahead of Manchester City’s Matchday 11 Premier League clash with Liverpool, head coach Pep Guardiola said at his press conference that he misses former Reds manager Jürgen Klopp, and compared their rivalry to El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
"The crowd in the stadium is quite similar, it's fantastic. We helped City to create this rivalry for the last decade.
Before that it was United-Liverpool, I guess. What happened with the Jurgen period means this has been the biggest because maybe after the first season the Premier League was between us and them,” Guardiola is quoted by the Premier League website as saying.
Always I enjoyed this healthy rivalry. I always had the feeling of how much we respected each other. Jurgen gave me a lot and I miss him. He gave me a lot in terms of how much I had to do to try and beat him.
Klopp managed Liverpool from the 2015-16 season through the 2023-24 season. The Merseyside club is now coached by Dutch manager Arne Slot.
The match between Manchester City and Liverpool will take place on November 9 and kick off at 19:30 GMT+3.
