The website of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) reported that Erling Haaland, the striker for English Premier League club Manchester City and the Norwegian national team, was released from the national team's camp.
It was noted that besides the 25-year-old Haaland, who is the all-time top scorer in Norway’s history with 51 goals in 46 matches, four other players also left the Norwegian national team camp. Defenders Julian Ryerson (Borussia Dortmund) and Fredrik André Bjørkan (Bodø/Glimt), as well as Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth, returned to their clubs due to a congested match schedule. Midfielder Felix Horn Myhre from Brann left for treatment because of an ankle injury.
On October 11, at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium, Ståle Solbakken’s team defeated Israel 5-0 in the seventh-round group stage match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Haaland scored a hat-trick at the 27th, 63rd, and 72nd minutes. On October 14, Norway will host a friendly match against New Zealand.
