Gambia national women’s football team forward Ola Buwaro has said the team will not lose hope, despite having a two-goal mountain to scale in their quest for a first ever qualification to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Gambian She Scorpions suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kenya’s Harambee Starlets in the first leg of the final qualification round played in Nairobi, and will need two unanswered goals to overturn the result and book a first ever ticket to the WAFCON.
According to the Lokomotiv Moscow forward who spoke to Telecomasia.net after the first leg qualifier, the single away goal they scored gives them enough confidence they can stun Kenya and qualify.
This game is not yet over. It is still 50-50. We scored one goal away from home and we can score many more at home. We learnt something about Kenya and now we know how to better take on them because we know their strengths and weaknesses and how they play. We believe in ourselves and we believe we can make history for the country. We have the ability and we just need to take our chances and ensure Kenya does not score.
Gambia will host the home game in neutral Senegal, as they currently do not have any approved stadia at home for international matches.
