Former Uzbekistan national team and Spartak striker Jafаr Irismetov shared his opinion with Telecomasia.net regarding the appointment of Fabio Cannavaro as the new head coach of the national team.
Many coaches refused to lead the Uzbekistan national team for some reason. To be honest, I am against Cannavaro’s candidacy. We need to hire a coach of Klopp’s level to go to the World Cup and perform well. Cannavaro is not the best option for the Uzbekistan team, but the management probably has another opinion, they know better. I don’t see how Cannavaro can influence the development of our football.
"I think he was chosen because of his name and his football career, but his coaching career is obviously weak. We need a coach who will help us, not just a loud name. It’s best to hire a coach with a strong resume. When you decide to bring on a specialist, their level should be different,” said Irismetov.
Earlier, insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Cannavaro gave his verbal consent to become the new head coach of Uzbekistan’s national team.
The parties agreed on contract terms; official signing is expected within 24-48 hours. Uzbekistan qualified for the World Cup for the first time in history.
During his coaching career, the 52-year-old Italian worked at Guangzhou Evergrande, Tianjin Quanjian (both China), Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia), Benevento, Udinese (both Italy), the China national team, and Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia).
