UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has criticized the state of Italy’s football infrastructure, particularly after the organization decided not to hold the Champions League final in Milan in 2027.
UEFA had initially approved the bid for the match to be played at the San Siro Stadium, but currently, the contenders for the Champions League final are Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium and the Baku Olympic Stadium.
Aleksander Čeferin, quoted by SportsMediaset
I think Italian football infrastructure is a shame. You are one of the biggest footballing countries, you have won many World Cups, European Championships, Champions Leagues, but at the same time, among the big countries, you have by far the worst infrastructure.
The last Champions League final held in Italy took place in 2016 at the San Siro. Italy will co-host the European Championship with Turkey in 2032.
