According to insider Matteo Moretto, AZ Alkmaar and Netherlands U21 midfielder Kees Smit has caught the attention of several top European clubs.
Real Madrid are named as the primary contenders to sign the 19-year-old AZ midfielder. It is noted that los Blancos scouts have repeatedly attended matches featuring the Dutchman. Additionally, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester City are reportedly interested in securing Smit’s services.
Smit is a product of the Alkmaar youth system and has been playing for the AZ senior team since March 2024. The midfielder’s current contract with the Alkmaar club runs until the end of June 2028. In the 2025-2026 season, Smit has made 14 appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring two goals and providing two assists, along with 11 appearances in the UEFA Conference League (three assists). Transfermarkt estimates Smit’s market value at €22 million.
