Insider Florian Plettenberg reports that former Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is the favorite to become Bayer Leverkusen’s new head coach.
According to Plettenberg, talks between the German club and the 53‑year‑old have seen significant progress. He is expected to be officially introduced as the new head coach next week.
Hjulmand’s last post was as Denmark’s national team coach from August 2020 to July 2024. Under his leadership Denmark became a sensation of Euro 2020 (played in 2021), reaching the semifinals where they lost 1-2 after extra time to England.
Recently Bayer announced the sacking of Erik ten Hag after just three matches in charge. Earlier Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez was also being considered as a potential Bayer head coach.
