As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, hours before the UEFA Champions League final on May 31, former Inter Milan owner and businessman Ernesto Pellegrini passed away.
Pellegrini, who acquired Inter in 1984 and managed the club until 1995, was 84 years old at the time of his death. The cause remains unknown. During his tenure, the club won the Serie A championship for the 1988/1989 season and claimed victory in the UEFA Cup final twice (1991, 1994). In 2022, Pellegrini was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame as a manager.
In his honor, the players of the Milan team will take to the field against Paris Saint-Germain wearing black armbands as a mark of respect.
For reference, the final of the most prestigious club tournament in Europe will take place on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, starting at 22:00 GMT+3.
