Ireland's Women's National Basketball Team Refuse To Shake Hands With Israel's Opponents

According to the BBC, the Irish women's basketball team on February 8 refused to shake hands with their Israeli opponents before the European Championship qualifier.

The game was held in the Latvian capital Riga due to the conflict in the Middle East, lasting since October 2023. The Israeli team nominally hosted the meeting.

Earlier, the organization "Irish Sport for Palestine" has called for a boycott of the match, which "the girls in green" declined in order to avoid fines and a lengthy disqualification. The Irish team lined up before the game at their bench, instead of in the center of the court.

The game ended in favor of Sharon Drucker's wards with a score of 87:57.
