John Stones Contemplated Retiring After the 2024-25 Season Due to Injuries

Manchester City and England defender John Stones, 31, told the BBC that he had considered retiring after the 2024-25 season because of injuries.

According to the Englishman, last season was difficult for him. He was tired of battling injuries and didn’t know how to handle it. Because of that, he contemplated ending his career.

I had had enough of being so professional and trying to do everything right in my power, to then keep breaking down and not having the answers. It was a very difficult place to be in.

John Stones has been with Manchester City since 2016. In the 2025-26 season, he has appeared in six matches across all competitions for the Sky Blues but hasn’t registered any goal contributions.

After seven Premier League rounds in 2025-26, Manchester City sit fifth with 13 points. In the eighth round, Pep Guardiola’s team will face Everton on October 18 at 17:00 GMT+3.
