LaLiga leadership is holding preliminary talks about staging a match between Barcelona and Villarreal in Miami, as reported by the Athletic.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is considering the possibility of holding a LaLiga game abroad to boost the competition’s popularity. However, moving the match to the United States would require approval from several organizations: UEFA, FIFA, the United States Soccer Federation, and CONCACAF.
The Villarreal vs. Barcelona match is scheduled for December 20 or 21. However, on December 21st the Hard Rock Stadium will host an NFL game between the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals.
To date, no match from a European domestic league has ever been played on another continent.
