Liverpool FC Releases Statement on Diogo Jota's Death

The press office of English football club Liverpool FC has released a statement regarding the tragic deaths of forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva.

The news of the players' deaths was announced on Thursday, July 3, following a tragic incident on a highway in the province of Zamora.

Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and made 182 appearances for the team in all competitions, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. He was part of the squad that won the English championship, the domestic cup, and twice claimed the EFL Cup.

Earlier reports suggested that a blown tire may have been the cause of the players' tragic deaths. The Portuguese Football Federation has also extended its condolences following the players’ passing.
