French football club Lyon announced the appointment of a new president on its official website after being excluded from Ligue 1.
Michele Kang has taken over as the new president, replacing John Textor. Kang has been a member of the Lyon board of directors since 2023.
On June 24, the French Professional Football League (LFP) declared the club's exclusion from Ligue 1 and its transfer to Ligue 2 due to violations in financial reporting. In late May, FIFA banned Lyon from registering new players until the summer of 2026.
Last season, Lyon finished sixth in the French league standings, earning 57 points and securing a place in the Europa League for the 2025/2026 season.
It was also reported that if Lyon's appeal against relegation to Ligue 2 is rejected, their place in the upcoming season of the French championship might be taken by Reims.
