The Saudi Arabian league refused Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi’s request to join a local team to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, reported RMC Sport.
The 38-year-old Argentine sought to sign a four-month contract with a Saudi club after the MLS season ended to prepare for the tournament. However, the Saudi sports authorities declined the idea, not wanting the league to become “just a training ground.”
Messi has played for Inter Miami since 2023, with 83 appearances, 73 goals, and 37 assists. His contract with the club runs until the end of 2028. Transfermarkt estimates his market price at 18 million euros.
