On a recent episode of the Major League Journeyman podcast, former player Alan Gordon recounted an altercation after the Leagues Cup final between Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders.
The incident involved Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi and Seattle midfielder Pedro de la Vega. According to Gordon, after the match and a skirmish between players from both sides, Messi allegedly told de la Vega that as long as Messi is a member of the Argentina national team, de la Vega should not expect to be included.
Additionally, during the same confrontation Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez reportedly insulted a Seattle representative and then spat in his direction. Those actions almost escalated the verbal exchange into a full-scale brawl between the teams.
Seattle won the match convincingly 3-0, claiming the Leagues Cup title for the first time in the club’s history.
