Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is being considered for the head coaching position at Macclesfield, according to The Sun.
Sources reveal that Macclesfield, competing in the National League North (England's sixth division) plans to bring in a new coach.
Currently, the team is managed by another former Manchester United player, Robbie Savage, but he is being targeted by the National League club Forest Green Rovers (fifth division).
Last season, Macclesfield achieved promotion.
As a coach, Rooney has worked with Derby County, Birmingham City, and DC United in MLS. Following his dismissal from Plymouth Argyle in late December 2024, the former England player has worked as a television analyst.
