Zambia’s head coach Avram Grant says he is optimistic that despite his side losing its first match at the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 in Nairobi, they can still rise up and battle for the title.
The Zambians lost their first game of the tourney 2-0 to DR Congo last Thursday, and will face Angola in a crucial second tie at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Grant who led Chelsea to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2008 has told Telecomasia that his side is keen to bounce back as they seek a first ever CHAN title.
Avram Grant
I have won six trophies asd a coach and of those, I lost all the first games in five of them. So maybe it might happen like this again you never know. In football and in life, you always have to wake up another day and try. We lost the first game of the tournament but that does not mean we are out of contention. We have a very good and hungry squad and everyone wants to make an improvement in our second game.
Zambia have never won the CHAN trophy, and the best they have done is finish third in 2009.
