Authorities in West Bengal have reacted to the incident involving riots staged by fans of Argentine forward Lionel Messi at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
According to state governor Ananda Bose, the organizer of the event, which the Argentine forward was supposed to attend, has been detained. He noted that an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently underway. ANI reports this.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, offered her apologies to Messi and the disappointed fans. She expressed deep concern and shock at what was seen at the Salt Lake Stadium, where thousands of sports enthusiasts had gathered to see their idol. Banerjee had planned to personally attend the event.
The cause of the vandalism was the dissatisfaction of fans who, after paying for tickets, could not fully enjoy Messi's appearance, as he quickly left the field.
