Player Union Criticizes Infantino Following Club World Cup

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) has expressed disagreement with FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarding the decision to hold the Club World Cup in a new format.

This was reported by The Independent, citing an official statement from FIFPro. For the first time in history, the Club World Cup featured 32 teams. The tournament took place in the USA, where English club Chelsea secured a decisive 3-0 victory over French side Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

In June 2024, it was announced that FIFPro, along with player unions from England and France, had filed a lawsuit against FIFA, accusing the federation of placing excessive burden on players.
