The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) plans to appeal the suspension of Cristiano Ronaldo, who faces a ban of more than one match following his red card in the 2-0 loss to Ireland.
According to Record, the FPF plans to appeal Ronaldo’s suspension to FIFA, arguing the ban should be reduced. Portugal seeks to avoid a scenario in which Ronaldo misses the opening match of the World Cup.
The captain received a straight red card for an elbow strike to the back of Irish defender Dara O’Shea. Ronaldo could be suspended for two or three matches.
