The English Premier League has launched an investigation into an incident that occurred during the opening match of the season between Liverpool and Bournemouth, which ended in a 4-2 victory for Liverpool. During the game, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo was subjected to racist abuse.
The match was halted in the first half after a complaint regarding the behavior of a Liverpool fan. Referee Anthony Taylor, following anti-discrimination protocols, paused the game and informed the captains and coaching staff of both teams about the situation.
Media reports indicate that the offender was in a wheelchair. Once the situation was addressed, the game resumed.
The Premier League stated that it will conduct a thorough investigation, expressing support for Semenyo and both clubs while asserting that racism has no place in football or society.
