The Football Association (FA) has suspended referee David Coote for eight weeks and ordered him to complete an educational program.
The punishment follows offensive remarks directed at former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. The FA says Coote used profane language, mentioning Klopp’s nationality. The incident was recorded on video in 2020 and was posted on social media in November 2024.
Last November the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) already suspended Coote for insults aimed at Liverpool and Klopp. UEFA later banned him from officiating until June 30, 2026, for breaching standards of conduct and damaging the reputation of the sport.
The Sun reports that Coote is currently working as a courier but hopes to return to refereeing.
