Safonov Was Incredible in the Match Against Flamengo: L'Equipe Journalist

L'Equipe journalist Jean-Philippe Leclair, in a conversation with Telecomasia.net, evaluated the performance of Russian PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov in the Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and PSG won the penalty shootout (2-1). Safonov was named the man of the match. In the shootout, the Russian saved four consecutive penalties, stopping shots from Saul Niguez, Pedro Abreu, Leo Pereira, and Luiz Araujo.

Matvei Safonov already played a decisive role in the penalty shootout against Lens last season. Today he was incredible. Still, I don't think he will become the undisputed first-team player. He will just put much more pressure on Chevalier.

Safonov has played for PSG since 2024. The footballer has 21 appearances to his name. The player's agreement with the club is valid until the summer of 2029. Transfermarkt estimates the footballer's market value at €15 million.
