Dutch head coach Louis van Gaal said several Dutch players contracted the flu before the World Cup 2022 round of 16 match in Qatar.

"I'm not going to talk about it in detail, but when it happens in the national team - it's concerning," the specialist said at a press conference. He also added that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong was among those infected.

The Netherlands are top of the group stage in their quartet with seven points from three rounds. In the first match of Group A, the Dutch team defeated Senegal 2-0. In the preliminary stage, Van Gaal's team also defeated Qatar (2-0) and played a draw with Ecuador (1-1).

In 1/8 finals of the tournament the Dutch team will play with the national team of the United States. A play-off match will take place on December 3. The starting whistle in the meeting will sound at 18:00 GMT+3.
