According to the portal Sport.es, La Liga club Barcelona has finalized the terms of a personal contract with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who was a gold medalist with the national team at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Reports indicate that the 24-year-old goalkeeper will join the La Liga champions for a fee of 25 million euros. An official announcement regarding the transfer is expected next week.
It's worth noting that AS reported on May 15 about the potential invitation for Garcia to join Barcelona. English club Newcastle United was also interested in the goalkeeper, but Garcia decided that the offer from the Catalans was the best from both a sporting and financial perspective.
In the 2024/2025 La Liga season, Garcia played in 38 matches, conceding 51 goals, while managing to keep a clean sheet in eight games. The goalkeeper's current contract with the Parrot' runs until the end of June 2028. Transfermarkt estimates Garcia's market value at 20 million euros.
On May 27, Goal Poland reported that Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny would extend his contract with Barcelona on a "1+1" basis.
