Sport.es reported that La Liga president Javier Tebas supports the idea of introducing challenges for video assistant referees and suggested trialing the system in Spain’s top division.
Javier Tebas
I like the system that FIFA is testing, where each head coach has the opportunity to request a review twice per match without waiting for the referee's decision regarding VAR. I am sure that such an experience will help to avoid disagreements. We can test this system at the highest level in the Spanish Primera División.
FIFA is trialing a system where head coaches can request video review of incidents for the referee, similar to hockey and tennis. Coaches are expected to have two challenges per match, which won’t be lost if the referee finds a rules violation upon review.
Tebas has previously criticized how VAR currently operates and noted that disputes over refereeing decisions harm the sporting side of the game.
