Barcelona Football Club officially announced that German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has been temporarily stripped of the captain's armband.
This decision comes as a result of a disciplinary investigation launched against the player. Until the matter is fully resolved, the club, in collaboration with its sports management and coaching staff, has decided to relieve Ter Stegen of his captaincy role.
During this period, the responsibilities of the first captain will be taken on by defender Ronald Araujo, who previously held the vice-captain position. The statement emphasizes that this decision was made by mutual agreement among all parties involved and is temporary until the investigation is complete.
The decision followed ter Stegen's refusal to sign a document confirming his injury, which was required for submission to the La Liga commission. Consequently, Barcelona initiated disciplinary proceedings against the player.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been the goalkeeper for the Blaugrana since 2014, and his contract with the club runs until the summer of 2028.
