UEFA has held meetings with representatives of countries supporting Palestine to discuss the potential conditions under which Israel could be suspended from international tournaments. The Athletic reports this news.
According to The Athletic, in September 2025, UEFA was close to holding a vote on the future participation of Israeli national teams and clubs in European cup tournaments. However, the governing body decided to refrain from doing so after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and the Palestinian military movement Hamas.
The Israeli national team finished third in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team secured 12 points in eight games.
Norway finished first in the group (24 points), and Italy finished second (18).
As a result, Israel failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
