Contract extension negotiations between forward Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid have been paused, and according to The Athletic, the likely reason is the player's conflict with head coach Xabi Alonso.
Vinicius's camp presented demands for new financial terms of historical magnitude, requesting one of the highest salaries in the club's history, reaching €30 million per season including all bonuses.
Negotiations were held before the start of the season, but they have now reached a standstill. Real Madrid realize that, besides financial disagreements, the complicated relationship between their star player and head coach Xabi Alonso is also hindering progress.
According to the source, the footballer does not consider it worthwhile to commit to a long-term agreement with the club because of his relationship with Alonso.
Vinícius has played for the Merengues since the summer of 2019. In total, he has participated in 339 matches, scoring 111 goals and providing 87 assists. His current agreement with the Madrid club expires in the summer of 2027. The Transfermarkt website estimates the 25-year-old footballer's value at €150 million.
It was previously reported that the Brazilian might leave the Spanish club in the winter transfer window, and it was also revealed that Manchester City are interested in Vinicius's services.
