The North American publication The Athletic published information regarding the reasons behind the conflict between Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior and the team's head coach, Xabi Alonso.
According to the source, after Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Barcelona in La Liga Matchday 10 fixture, the Brazilian went to club president Florentino Perez and apologized for his behavior. During that meeting, the player's future was discussed. Vinicius made it clear then that a contract extension was not the best option at the moment due to the winger's relationship with Alonso.
Vinicius believes the coach treats him unfairly, as he has only played the full match in five out of 17 games total, the source reports.
Vinicius has played for Real Madrid since 2018. With los Blancos, he has won the Champions League twice, La Liga three times, the Spanish Super Cup three times, and the Copa del Rey once. In the 2025-26 season, he has six goals and five assists in 23 matches across all competitions.
After 13 rounds of the current Spanish championship season, Real Madrid are in first place in the table with 32 points. On Matchday 14, Xabi Alonso's team will meet Girona. The match will take place on November 30 and will kick off at 23:00 GMT+3.
