South Korean striker Son Heung-min has announced at a press conference in Seoul before a friendly match against Newcastle that he will be leaving Tottenham this summer.
He shared that this was the toughest decision of his career but feels he needs a new environment for growth and change after ten years with the club.
Son Heung-min, quoted by Tottenham's media service
I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment. So I just want to say thank you to all of the Spurs fans that gave me so much love and felt like It was my home.
Son admitted that it was difficult to tell the news to his teammates and that the last few days have been challenging, though he has tried to stay positive.
Since joining the Spurs in August 2015, Son has appeared in 454 matches, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists. His contract with the club runs until the summer of 2026, and Transfermarkt estimates the 33-year-old player at 20 million euros.
