Turkish Police Detain 17 Football Referees in Betting Scandal

According to Anadolu Agency, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued arrest warrants for 18 of 21 suspects in a case involving football referees placing bets, including 17 referees.

Per the report, the bets in question were placed at licensed sportsbooks.

Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu stated that 42 referees placed more than 1,000 bets, with one individual placing 18,227 bets – though the majority of the wagers were single, isolated bets.
