U.S. President Donald Trump has exercised his power of pardon toward Joe Lewis, former owner of the English football club Tottenham Hotspur.
The 88-year-old billionaire was previously sentenced to a suspended prison term for illegal trading based on insider information, as reported by the Daily Mail.
He had originally been sentenced to three years in prison with the sentence suspended, along with a fine of £3.8 million (equivalent to €4.3 million), on charges of criminal conspiracy and illegal use of confidential information regarding the securities market.
It is alleged that Lewis carried out the actions attributed to him between 2013 and 2021 – a period that coincides with his managing Tottenham as an owner.
Changes in Tottenham’s ownership structure took place in 2022, when Lewis transferred his controlling stake in the club to members of his family. Currently, direct management of the club is fully in the hands of his daughter, son, and son-in-law.
