UEFA May Penalize Barcelona in Upcoming Champions League Season

In the next UEFA competition season, FC Barcelona faces potential sanctions from UEFA due to financial compliance issues, according to The Times.

The report indicates that the Catalan club continues to circumvent European financial regulations by inaccurately reporting revenues from the sale of intangible assets. This allows Barcelona to expand their capabilities in the transfer market. In the fall of 2024, the club was fined 500,000 euros for similar violations and attempted to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the appeal was rejected.

If Barcelona commit further financial fair play violations, they could face point deductions during the group stage of the 2025/26 Champions League, along with restrictions on player registrations for the tournament.

In the previous season, Barcelona won the La Liga title as well as the domestic Cup and Supercup. In the Champions League, they reached the semifinals where they were defeated by Inter.
