Verratti Explains Why PSG Failed to Win the UCL with Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar

Former PSG midfielder Marco Verratti explained why the Parisian club was unable to capture the UEFA Champions League trophy despite having stars like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar on their roster.

Marco Verratti for Marca
That's what makes football beautiful. It's not just about buying players and winning. That PSG team was a serious project, and they helped the club grow. Individually, we had many star players, but we lacked something as a team. And that matters a lot in today's football.

Lionel Messi played for PSG from 2021 to 2023. During that time, the Argentine appeared in 75 matches, scoring 32 goals and providing 35 assists. With the Parisian club, he won the French championship twice and the French Super Cup once. He currently plays for the American club Inter Miami.

Kylian Mbappe played for PSG from 2018 to 2024. The Frenchman took part in 308 matches across all competitions, scoring 256 goals and providing108 assists. With the Parisians, he became the French champion six times, won the French Cup four times, and the Super Cup three times. He now plays for Real Madrid.

Neymar played for PSG from 2017 to 2022. The Brazilian appeared in 173 matches across all competitions, scoring 118 goals and providing 77 assists. With the club, he became the French champion five times, won the French Cup three times, and the French Super Cup four times. Neymar currently plays for his hometown club, Santos.

In the past UEFA Champions League season, PSG secured a convincing 5-0 victory over Inter in the final, winning the trophy for the first time.
