Bayer midfielder Florian Wirtz is close to moving to Liverpool - the parties have agreed all the details of the deal, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The transfer will amount to between 130 and 135 million euros. It is expected that next week Wirtz will undergo a medical examination, after which he will sign a contract with the English club until the summer of 2030. The move will be a record-breaking one for Liverpool and for all of English football.
The previous record of Liverpool belonged to Uruguayan Darwin Nunez, who was purchased in the summer of 2022 for 85 million euros. The most expensive transfer in the history of the EPL is the transfer of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica to Chelsea for 121 million euros in January 2023.
Wirtz, 22, joined Bayer in 2020 and has since played 197 games, scoring 57 goals and making 65 assists. In the 2023/24 season, he became the champion of Germany, won the German Cup and Super Cup, and reached the final of the Europa League. At the end of the season, Wirtz was recognized as the best player in the Bundesliga.
